Components of Treatment of Cancer care

Cancer is a general term for over 120 different types and sub-classes of malignancies. Increasingly sub-specialised medical knowledge is required to ensure that the latest treatments are considered.

The evidence indicates that a team approach where professionals consider all treatment options and develop an individualised care plan can reduce mortality and improve quality of life for the patient.

At Macquarie Hospital Cancer Care Centre, sub specialised multidisciplinary teams will deliver comprehensive and integrated services across the continuum of care. The clinicians and other professionals involved with the patient meet regularly to develop and review care plans.

A patient’s journey with cancer is a long and complex one. From screening and diagnosis through to treatment and supportive care, a patient can see as many as 80 service providers. In order to make this process easier we will provide your patient with an individualised care plan. They will also be assigned a dedicated specialist nurse care coordinator who will guide them through the course of their treatment.
